It is not often, if ever, that you come across an individual who doesn’t own a mobile phone. In fact, research shows that 40% of all calls made are from mobile handsets, with Ofcom predicting a significant increase in 2010. Many organisations wanting to attract a bigger client base, especially mobile phone users, would benefit from free 03 numbers.
In 2007 Ofcom released a new range of non-geographical numbers beginning with 03. They hold the same benefits as 08 ranges and can be incorporated into telephony solutions. However, 03 numbers differ from 08 ranges as the cost to a customer calling the 03 range is the same as that of 01/02 numbers.
This is excellent news for all mobile phone users, now using their ever advancing handsets, instead of a household landline. Calls to 03 numbers will be covered in many network providers’ price plans, included in monthly inclusive call packages, meaning mobile phone owners effectively benefit from free 03 numbers. Freephone 08 numbers have been perceived to be misleading, being chargeable when calling from a mobile phone, leaving many customers dissatisfied.
03 numbers are seen as more customer friendly, leading many organisations to use the 03 range as a way of attracting more business by providing customers with a user-friendly service. 0300 and 0303 ranges are exclusive to charities and public sector organisations, used in a not for profit capacity.
0330 and 0333 ranges can be used by any business or organisation, with 03 migration available to any business already using a 08 equivalent. Many telecom networks now provide packages, providing a business with free 03 numbers.
Several organisations already use 03 number ranges, including: BBC, Oxfam, RSPCA and Essex Police. A company can therefore still benefit from a big business image but also strong customer service. With telecommunications networks providing packages incorporating free 03 numbers, companies can improve their image whilst gaining in revenue.
