Is BSkyB about to enter the mobile market?

Over the weekend The Sunday Times reported that BSkyB was planning to add mobile to its already extensive range of services. It was to do this by bidding for a share of the airwaves that Everything Everywhere (parent company of both T-Mobile and Orange) is required to sell. Plus, more reports of the move are coming out for many media organisations.
In April BSkyB poured cold water on previous rumors they were to launch a mobile network: “While we continue to extend our leadership in mobile content, we currently have no plans to offer mobile access beyond our existing public WiFi network”.
As well as their satellite TV, landline phone and broadband services, they also offer all current broadband customers access to their unlimited WIFI hotspots.
08Direct has found that the internet is filled with reports that the two companies have met for talks earlier this year, but no formal discussions have taken place since.
The UK mobile industry is bracing itself for a new major operator entering the market, with Virgin Media reportedly waiting to increase it’s presence.| Categorised in: Mobile Phones | This post was written by admin
