French mobile phone supplier issues customer bill for €11,721,000,000,000,000

An unemployed mobile phone user in France was left shocked and ‘close to a heart attack’ after being issues with a bill totaling 5,000 times GDP of the whole of France.

The network supplier, Bouygues sent demand for what has to be the biggest phone bill in history, but later admitted a gigantic error.

Solenne San Jose from Bordeaux, who immediately contacted the company to question the bill, was left in fear that at any point Bouygues would take the astronomical amount out of her bank account. She told her local paper: “I nearly had a heart attack. There were so many zeros that I couldn’t even work out how much it was.”

She reported that it took days of phone calls to the company before someone admitted there was an error. She was greeted with several comments including that there “was nothing they could do”, and “the bill is calculated automatically”. She was even told that someone would contact her regarding paying the bill in installments.

Finally, the company admitted the error and re-issued a bill for €117.21!

The bill dwarfs others by comparison, but we have done some reasearch into other outrageous phone bills:

– In 2007, a British man ran up a bill of £27,322 after downloading films and music to his phone. He found is Vodafone connection was faster than his Internet Service Provider. However, he didn’t realise his £7.50 package only included 125MB of data, and was not unlimited.

– In mexico, the nephew of ‘Uncle Alberto’ downloaded the film Wall-E to his mobile to save himself from boredom. Upon returning home he was greeted with a bill for £38,000.

– A dedicated fan of the Chicago Bears in America used his wireless card to watch his team’s latest game, costing him a cool $27,000!
